History of School
The townsmen of Velké Meziříčí were trying to found a secondary school since 1848. In 1899 the school was established under the name Vyšší zemská reálka; the first students, 82 boys, attended in 1901. Initially the technical subjects prevailed due to the need of technically educated people in the mostly agricultural region.
During the school's history the proportion of technical and humanity subjects has changed considerably and so has the name of the school. Since 1990 the grammar school has had two study cycles, i.e. a four-year and an eight-year programme.
For more than 100 years students have been actively engaged in many after-school activities including theatre performances, school choir, students‘ orchestra, sports activities, competitions, art exhibitions and many others.
